We will visit both the vast desert interior with charming oases and the high dunes of Amtlich, and the coastal jewels like the Cap Blanc, thus combining the desert and the ocean on this tour. Day 4.
distance text-nowrap icon

110 km

Surface: Sand and rocky track

ICHIFF - M'HAIRETH - ZARGA - CHINGUITTY

Early departure for M'haireth. This village, nestled on the side of a plateau, seems cut off from the world. Its unique character lies in its straw houses (tikitts) still surrounded by palisades of thorny plants (zariba). The whole area is encircled by a vast palm grove, and the inhabitants live as they did centuries ago, cultivating small plots and raising animals.

Then we continue to the village of Zarga for lunch, followed by a trip to the town of Chinguitty.

We will arrive in Chinguitty, an ancient caravan city and the seventh holiest city of Islam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit the citadel, the stone mosque, and the desert libraries, which house precious manuscripts.

Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse in Chinguitty.

Day 5.
distance text-nowrap icon

200 km

Surface: Sand and rocky track

CHINGUITTY - TANOUCHERT - GUELB RICHAT - OUADANE

After breakfast at the guesthouse, we leave Chinguitty for Guelb Richat, passing through Tanouchert. We'll have lunch enroute and arrive at Guelb Richat, a geological formation nicknamed the "Eye of the Desert". The Richat structure in Mauritania, one of the geological formations most admired by astronauts on the International Space Station, remained unexplored for millennia. Then, with the advent of space missions, satellites, and the International Space Station, the "Eye of the Sahara," a circular geological formation located in the Western Sahara Desert, became one of the most fascinating photographic objects in North Africa.

Drive to Ouadane, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For centuries, this desert town played a crucial role in transporting gold and salt for the Ghana Empire. We will see the ruins of the old city, perched on a slope descending into an arid valley, dating back to the times of the caravans. Today, Ouadane is a peaceful place at the very end of the road - beyond it stretches only the vastness of the desert.

Dinner and overnight at a guesthouse in Ouadane.

Day 6.
distance text-nowrap icon

340 km

Surface: Sand, rocky track and asphalt

OUADANE - ATAR - BEN AMIRA

In the morning, we take some time to admire and gradually explore the vast Mauritanian desert as we head via Atar towards Ben Amira, an impressive black granite monolith. It is the third largest monolith in the world, after the Australian monoliths Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Mount Augustus.

Dinner and overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 7.
distance text-nowrap icon

300 km

Surface: Sandy track

BEN AMIRA - BANC D'ARGUIN (ARKEISS)

After the breakfast, we depart Ben Amira for the Banc d'Arguin National Park established in 1970 to protect the region's rich biodiversity. This unique coastal ecosystem is bathed by deep, cold, nutrient-rich waters, which explains the presence of significant populations of birds, fish, invertebrates, and marine mammals.

Diner and overnight camp near the beach.

Day 8.
distance text-nowrap icon

BANC D'ARGUIN (ARKEISS - NOUAMGHAR)
