Libya 2009

Last Take

25.2.2009 | Ljubljana, Slovenia

This is where we spent our last night in Tunisia. Photo by Tomaž Oštir Yippee, the shooting is over! I'm telling you, it's over! :)))

So far every visit to Libya has come to a close. And every time with a smile on my face and a bag full of vivid and marvellous memories. The rich balance total of this last journey is almost 5000 photos, a little over an hour and a half of video footage, successful meetings in Libya and the greatly impressed Tomaž and Uroš who can't wait to go back to Libya again.

Shrovetide Good Deeds

24.2.2009 | Karst, Slovenia

When waiting for the ferry in Tunisia, usually we go a bit silly. Photo Tomaž Oštir Did somebody say... only a bit?! Photo Tomaž Oštir We didn't go anywhere here. Photo Tomaž Oštir

On my journeys I have always met people who are willing to sacrifice their time, goodwill, and sometimes also some money for me, a person they will never see again. This mostly happens among people who possess little more than a genuine smile on their face. But they are in fact much richer than many people in "civilised Europe". And at all that, they couldn't care less for the current crisis.

Goodbye to Libya

23.2.2009 | Tuscany, Italy

Yes, right into this waves to enjoy 15 °C. ;) Photo Tomaž Oštir This was downthere. But before getting there we had to put our gear on... Photo Tomaž Oštir

There is no way I could have left Libya without taking another peek underwater. We met up with Mohammed at quarter to eight (well, we were a bit late, we really can't lie with all the technology we lug round) and soon we sank into the wavy Mediterranean which was a mean 15°C that morning.

Snowy Sicily

22.2.2009 | Palermo, Italy

The already traditional shot from Hammamet. Palermo - Excellent! Did he have a road accident in Saudi Arabia, too? Incidentally, yesterday was the anniversary.

This time our way home took us not through Malta but Sicily. As our house had to stay put on the ferry during the ten-hour stopover in Palermo, we decided to rent a vehicle and go for a spin to don Vito's. Our search for an old Panda, Vespa or a Piaggio tricycle was in vain. For six hours, we ended up with a fairly new Clio instead.

Sabha and Tripoli - welding and shishas

Some days ago I promissed you the story about the slow way to Sabha. Greater part of the road betwen Germa and Sabha is in a horrible condition and perfectly fits the saying that no road is better than bad road. Luckily it took its toll only a few kilometres from the camping site in Sabha.
