AQABA – THE BLUE RED SEA

21.08.2015
I was planning to stay in Petra with Barbara and Klaus yesterday, but as we arrived there after a rainy night and a very foggy morning (I couldn't drive faster than 70kph!) around noon, the weather there was also awful. So we continued on to Aqaba, but only after we all together repaired a tyre of Oliver's and Sandra's Toyota, they were namely in Petra as well. We were being extremely wise, but nobody has tried it before. We were reading German, English and Spanish instructions, watched the figures, being very smart, full of advices, everybody tried a bit, but surprisingly, the tyre is fixed and the air isn't escaping any more. Alhamdulillah!

So we decided to drop from 1000 metres of elevation to Aqaba, 120 kilometres away where we were hoping to enjoy a better weather. Finally, what's 120 kilometres here, my engine spent less than one euro on the fuel for the leg! :-))
As I was trying to find my tour guide colleague in Aqaba (he's working for Slovenian agency Kompas Holidays here) I arrived the last to the camping site south of the town. I was given the coordinates of a superb place on the beach by Helen and Richard when we met on Turkish-Syrian border. They have arrived safe and sound to London meanwhile. Congratulations and thanks for the tip!

Yesterday's dinner was cooked by Sandra (www.gilles-unterwegs.de) and it was einfach Klasse!

I made a new friend with an Afghan Terrier from the restaurant, called Khataf (the Terrier, not the restaurant, this one is called Mermaid), and we had real fights – I'm trying to catch his mouth while he's trying to do the same with my hand.

Today I finally saw the Red Sea at daylight. Awful, I'm completely disappointed! It is blue!!! Now I realize what kind of lies they are spreading at school and in atlases. Barbara and Klaus went downtown for some shopping (Aqaba is duty free zone). With Oliver we're trying to rescue data from his laptop, then they'll have to format the HD and let's hope the thing will work again.

I plan some snorkeling in the blue sea today, and then I'll also go to Aqaba for acquiring some essential survival stuff and, of course, to find some internet access and to place this news and some pictures on. Yesterday's news, which was on stock for cases like this, was put on the web by Rok so the page wasn't static for too long.

Apart from taking care for the web page Rok is also responsible that my laptop is the hardest-working here, as it's stable (let's hope this won't change), and above all, WORKING. He helped me all the way from buying till the last advices (and in some other things as well, but let's shut up about that). THANK YOU!!!

P.S.: A news for December 13th was also added today
